Summer Camp Teachers are responsible for planning and teaching week-long day camp programs for a class of 10-16 campers. Dunwoody Nature Center Summer Camp runs weekly from May 28th to August 23rd . Half day and full day camps are offered most weeks. Half day camp runs from 9:30am-1:00pm and is offered to 10 campers ages 3.5 or 4 years old (actual work hours are 9:00am1:30pm). Full day camp runs from 9:30am-3:30pm and is offered to rising K-5 age campers (actual work hours are 9:00am-4:00pm). Full day camp class size ranges from 12-16 campers. Classes are grouped by age. Summer Camp Teachers can commit to the desired number of weeks (from 1-8 weeks) based on availability. (Great option for school teachers who do not want to work during the entire summer break!) Reports to: Summer Camp Director
Responsibilities:
- Develop, prepare and teach lessons based on the predetermined theme of the camp weeks assigned
- Submit lesson plans & material needs to Camp Director at least two weeks in advance
- Ensure safety and wellbeing of campers at all timesÂ
- Administer minor First Aid to campers as needed
- Manage conflict and behavioral issues among campers using positive reinforcement
- Manage 2-3 teenage Junior Counselor volunteers who are assigned to assist you each week
Qualifications: 2+ years’ experience working with and teaching elementary age children, experience as a camp counselor or a school teacher preferred; ability to work independently; enthusiasm and energy to provide an engaging day camp experience; must be able to work in an outdoor setting and in hot and humid weather conditions; must be able to hike 2+ miles; Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Compensation: Full day camp (5 day week): $19 per hour/ 35 hours a week. Half day camp (5 day week); $19 per hour/22.5 hours a week. Camp teachers are hired as part time employees.
