During the 1960s, Ambassador Young played a pivotal role as a strategist and negotiator in civil rights campaigns, leading to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. His diplomatic prowess continued to shine as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in 1977, where he negotiated the end of white-minority rule in Namibia and Zimbabwe, contributing to global advancements in human rights.

As a two-term Mayor of Atlanta, Ambassador Young's leadership resulted in the influx of over 1,100 businesses, $70 billion in foreign direct investments, and the creation of over a million jobs. His commitment to education, health, leadership, and human rights is further evidenced by the foundation he and his wife, Carolyn McClain Young, established in 2003 -- the Andrew J. Young Foundation.

Ambassador Young, the recipient of numerous awards and honorary degrees, continues to serve on influential boards, including the Martin Luther King Center for Non-Violent Social Change, Morehouse College, Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State, and Americas Mart.

In partnership with the Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce, this event not only celebrates Black History Month but also pays tribute to the enduring legacy of Ambassador Andrew Young. Join us for an inspiring and historic luncheon that promises to be a highlight of the community calendar.
